Past participants have told us that they feel more confident in recognising seizure activity and providing person-centred support to people living with epilepsy after completing our training programs.

People living with epilepsy experience better support through improved epilepsy knowledge, Epilepsy Management Plan development, seizure first aid response strategies and emergency medication administration training.

Through our education and training programs we build the capacity of individuals and families, organisations and the community to better understand and support the needs of people living with epilepsy. In this way we are working towards creating an ’epilepsy smart’ Australia.

1 in 200 Australian students live with epilepsy. Our Epilepsy Smart Schools program has been developed to support these learners but also teachers, schools and school communities. An important element of becoming a recognised Epilepsy Smart School is training, which is available through our Education and Training Team (and partners in other states and territories).

Why choose us for epilepsy training?

Our trainers bring a wealth of experience with backgrounds and qualifications in nursing, direct care, disability and education. All of our trainers hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Our programs are available online or can be delivered in workplace and community settings. And, some of our programs allow participants to gain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) endorsed by relevant industry associations.

Our training services are complemented by our InfoLine 1300 761 487 which provides support to people living with epilepsy and their family and/or support network.

Testimonials

“We recently had the privilege of completing an Epilepsy Course through the Epilepsy foundation at our kindergarten. The course content was exceptionally well-structured, thoroughly informative, and also incredibly valuable to our team. The instructor demonstrated a deep understanding of epilepsy and its various aspects. They conveyed complex medical information in a clear and accessible manner, making it easy for all participants to grasp the key concepts. Our Educators at the kindergarten now feel confident in understanding epilepsy, managing seizures, and providing better support to the children affected by the condition. I wholeheartedly recommend the Epilepsy Course to anyone seeking a comprehensive and compassionate understanding of epilepsy.”

“As a school nurse in Special Education, I have a duty of care to ensure that all students with epilepsy are well supported and all teaching staff involved with these students are knowledgeable and confident to assist and support them as required at school.

The Epilepsy Foundation have well facilitated all required staff training to ensure that our staff are well equipped with the tools and resources needed to support our students with Epilepsy and those needing emergency medication for seizures.

I have encountered very positive and friendly staff who are willing to go above and beyond to ensure the safety of our students by arranging timely midazolam staff training. All training sessions have been very informative, thorough and promote the safety and wellbeing of the student.

The Epilepsy Foundation offers evidence-based, person centered education and training to our staff which increases awareness and understanding of epilepsy in the school community, ensuring that no one living with epilepsy “goes it alone” Thanks to the Epilepsy Foundation, we are certainly an Epilepsy Smart School.”
